Location & season
Located in the northern hemisphere, the Gulmarg snow
season begins in late November and incredibly, extends till April. However, we recommend visiting between January and March, generally the months of consistent snowfall. Also, by mid-December, the base layer of snow will have settled and hardened sufficiently, allowing for great stability within the snow pack. The result? The perfect playground.

Terrain
Gulmarg is 52km from Srinigar, the capital of Kashmir.
The town itself has an elevation of 9000ft. The famous peaks of K2, second highest mountain in the world (aka Savage Mountain) and Nanga Parbat, ninth highest mountain in the world (aka Killer Mountain), can be seen in the distance.
At Gulmarg, there is just one word to describe the experience – terrain, terrain, terrain. The highest gondola in the world takes skiers and boarders to 12,000ft above sea level and the nearest peak, just half an hour away by boot-packing or skinning, rises to a jaw-dropping 14,000ft. Once you take the gondola to it’s highest point, the possibilities are limitless. There are numerous lines you can take in the surrounding bowls of Mt Apharwat and beautiful runs that will take you through the trees to Durang Village. Don’t be surprised if the only tracks you see belong to you and your guide.
Powder
In addition to custom-made terrain, the powder will blow
your mind. Over a season, Gulmarg receives around 42ft of snow per season. If the gondola is temporarily shut down due to snowstorms, don’t worry – Monkey Hill is nearby for perfect powder runs through the trees. You’ll never miss a snow day. It often snows heavily overnight, allowing you to wake up to powder-laden mountains and, almost always, perfect bluebird days. Yes – it is snowing just for you.
