getting home safe

Your safety is of paramount importance. Below are some useful tips to get you started – you’ll learn even more when you register for one of our Kashmir tour packages.

Introduction
We assure you that Gulmarg is a very safe destination for
a snow holiday – no more dangerous than any other destination in Europe or the Americas. You just need to exercise common sense and follow instructions from your guides. We would never risk our own safety (let alone yours) and return year after year to build a successful business venture here.

Ski & Avalanche Patrol
Gulmarg has a professional avalanche patrol team that has
been working in the region for 10 years who know the terrain intimately. All Patrol staff are Certified by the Canadian Avalanche Association and trained annually to keep up with industry developments and technology. Conditions are assessed every day, so follow their instructions and you’re good to go.

International Guides
It’s crucial to skiing Gulmarg, Kashmir with a qualified
mountain guide, whether you’re skiing or snowboarding on-piste, backcountry, or coming down from the gondola. The terrain, although terrific, will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced so you would be tempting fate by going out on your own. Mushtaq Khan and Mehmood Ahmad, co-founders of K-line, are the only 2 internationally qualified mountain guides in Kashmir. In their hands, you’re safe to go hard.

Safety Gear
Your guide will be carrying fully functional safety equipment,
transceivers, shovels and probes are also available to rent. A Black Diamond Avalung is a worthwhile investment. In case of emergency, First Aid teams and helicopters are also on standby.

Health Insurance & Hospitals
Health insurance is your responsibility and we will be
checking this when you register for our packages. Ensure that your insurance covers both on-piste and off-piste boarding and skiing.

Vaccines
We have never gone down with food poisoning or any other
type of illness in Kashmir. However, we strongly suggest that you take certain vaccines before leaving. Each Government may have different reommendations, but the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends shots for Cholera, Typhoid, Hepititas A and B. Diseases such as malaria are not a large risk because of the climate, but please seek medical advice if you’re concerned.

Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness is determined by the height at which you
spend most of your time (i.e. at your hotel), rather than by the height you reach while skiing and boarding. The hotels in Gulmarg are situated lower than resorts in Chile and the Rocky Mountains. On a personal note, we’ve never felt any altitude sickness and or heard any visitors mention it. However, you can take precautions by avoiding sleeping tablets and alcohol and keeping hydrated.
